Seeking to defuse a month of tension over the Rodney G. King affair, Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, Police Chief Daryl F. Gates and City Council President John Ferraro agreed Tuesday to stop their political wrangling and allow several investigations into the King beating to run their course.
The three Los Angeles leaders, appearing together at a late afternoon news conference at City Hall, signaled that they have "put aside our personal differences" after days of turmoil in which they have battled over the future of the Police Department.
