PRESIDENT OF MTI RESIGNS AFTER SEVEN YEARS.(Business)

The president and chief operating officer of Mechanical Technology Inc. in Latham resigned on Friday after seven years with the high-technology firm.

Richard K. Schmidt, 47, resigned his $186,578-a-year post "to pursue other business interests after having served as president and a member of the board of directors of MTI since 1984," said a company announcement Friday from Harry Apkarian, MTI chairman.

In a prepared statement, Apkarian said that Donald R. VanLuvanee will be replacing Schmidt as president and director of MTI.
